When I first started performing Christian songs in my late teens, I used to start my concerts with songs that spoke of the helplessness of life without God. These songs were not to be sung in isolation - they were preparation for the Gospel-centered sons later. 'Slow but Sure' was one of these songs.
lyrics
Moving like a shire horse that pulls a tram
Moving like a car in a traffic jam
I'm getting along – slow but sure
Moving like a barge on a waterway
Moving like a yacht on a windless day
I'm getting along – slow but sure
I'm just sitting in the park watching flowers grow
If I am late I do not want to know
I've got a hold on this life of mine and I won't let go
Off you go ahead please if you don't mind
Seems to me you've all left me far behind
I'm getting along – slow but sure
I don't care if there are better things I like this place
I know it's only wind I have to chase
I'm not moving on for I'm the loser in the human race
Moving like a whale landed on the beach
Moving to a goal that is out of reach
I'm getting along – slow but sure
